Michael earned his doctorate as a Somatic Depth Psychologist from Pacifica Graduate Institute, Carpinteria CA. Additionally, Michael is certified as an Advanced Trauma Specialist (RIITM), EMDR, Neuro Affective Touch Practitioner (NAT), with specializations in addiction/ recovery, transpersonal psycho-spiritual counseling and is trained in Shamanic Practices.
Michael’s psychodynamic-based, (Jungian-oriented) philosophy is grounded in depth- psychological therapeutic practices and modalities, neurobiology, and neurophysiology, and highly influenced through indigenous shaman practices. An intuitive and empathic healer, Michael’s approach targets the more humanistic, transpersonal, and existential realms of the unconscious psyche and soul. His eclectic, solution-oriented, ‘bottom-up’ approach bridges the gap between the conscious ego, and the unconscious psyche, to facilitate unprecedented soul healing and reconnection with one’s authentic Self through the “wisdom of the body”.
Michael specializes in both civilian and combat-related post-traumatic stress, developmental, family of origin and childhood trauma, sexual trauma, chronic depression, hyper-vigilance and anxiety disorders, phobias, survivors’ guilt, shame, moral injury and betrayal, sleep disturbance/ nightmares/ flashbacks, psycho-social and psycho-spiritual issues, addiction recovery counseling, co morbid disorders and complex disorders of extreme stress (C- PTSD). His expertise extends to civilian post-traumatic stress, such as victim-related, natural disaster crisis, survivor and/ or perpetrator trauma. Lastly, Michael facilitates meditation and mindfulness practices.
Michael’s background in indigenous shamanic and psycho-spiritual healing practices adds yet another dimension to his work. These modalities include shamanic journeys, soul loss and retrieval, regression work, energy healing, internal grid alignment, extractions, ceremony, ritual, plant medicine, mythos poetic storytelling and initiation rites of passage.
Michael holds a B.S. in Business Administration, Marketing Management and a Minor in Communications from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo CA. Michael has been certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise (ACE), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), in Athletic Spinal Injuries and Corrective Spine Rehabilitation from the Marina Spine Institute and is a former Cancer Wellness Coach. Lastly, Michael is the author of “Body Express Makeover” (Simon and Schuster, 2005).
